Brahms composed the Four Serious Songs, (Vier ernste Gesänge) Op. 121, his final song set,  in 1896. Originally written for Bass voice and Piano, this profoundly beautiful set stands as one of the greatest masterpieces of the Lieder genre.  This new arrangement by Mark Sparks stays as true to the original as possible, often emphasizing the flute' soulful low register.
